Oh my god! I don't know what I am gonna do. Remember yesterday when I told you that I was nervous that my Pa might do somethin' that he regrets? Well, he did. He went after them dumb kids that belong to Atticus. I am tryin' to stay calm but when I think about it my eyes start to tear up. Last night, my Pa left the house and went off to get revenge on Atticus an' now he's dead! Yep, that's right, my Pa is dead! I am tryin' to stay calm but my little siblings see me cryin' and they don't know why. I haven't told 'em yet. I just don't have the nerve to tell 'em. I don't wanna see their faces when I tell them that their Papa is gone. I just don't have the heart to do it.
I already had enough jobs to do around the house and take care of the kids, now what am I gonna do? Even though my dad was drunk most of the time, I still need him around to help me. I am really gonna miss him. I lost my mother and now I gotta loose my Papa too? What am I gonna do? I am now both mother and father to my siblings. I can't even get a job 'cause I am a woman, I gotta lotta cleanin' an' work 'round the house to do an' I need'ta take care of my family, cause their ain't no one else to do it. I am really at a loss of words. I dunno what I am gonna do but I'll find a way, I always do.

I'm Nervous
My Pa was so darn pissed off at that Atticus that he stormed outta the house cussin'. He is really annoyed that a white man would even try to defend a black man. He is also annoyed 'cause Atticus should know that Tom is guilty, everybody in town does. I hope he don't do nothin' stupid. Last time, he got so mad at Atticus that he spat in his face.
I'm tellin' you people, I just don't get that man Atticus. It's like he has no feelings inside. He is expressionless! If someone bothers him or somethin' he don't even say nothin' back! I don't get it. He didn't even care when my Pa spat in his face or cussed him off. He just wiped off his face and left. I think my dad keeps doin' stuff to annoy him, just to see if he is actually ever goin' to react. Well, I gotta go. My sister is callin' me. But pray for my Pa tonight 'cause it makes me nervous that he just stormed outta the house like that. But he's done it before and he came back so I guess he'll be fine. I dunno. I just hope he ain't gonna do somethin' that he later regrets.

The Verdict
They just told us the verdict. FINALLY! It took long enough. Of course, I was right, that Tom Robinson is guilty. They even took him away in handcuffs. HAHA that stinks for him, but he darn well deserves it. After what he did to me and after what he put me and my Pa through, that man should stay in jail for the rest of his life!
It is pretty damn funny that Atticus wants to have an appeal. What a joke! An appeal? Is he serious? That is pointless! I ain't goin' back to court. They are gonna have'ta come to my house and drag me down to court if they want me there 'cause they ain't wastin' anymore of my time. That is priceless time that I could be waterin' my precious geraniums. I don't wanna be sittin' in court watchin' that damn Tom bein' questioned for another hour. What a waste of time!

Tom's Turn
Tom Robinson just took the stand. I still can't believe that Atticus is actin' all serious and actually tryin' to defend him. I saw his kids and they were sitting in the colored people's section. That just goes to show'ya that we should treat that whole family just like we treat the black folks. They ain't ever even shown the littlest bit of respect towards my family throughout this whole thing. I am the victim here and Atticus is actin' like I am lyin' and tryin' to protect my Pa. If my Papa ever did anythin' like that to me I sure as hell would tell the truth. Before I took the stand, I even put my hand on the bible and swore to tell the whole truth and nothin' but it.
Tom is sucha damn liar. Why the hell would they even put that man on the stand? I don't get it, it is obvious that he ain't gonna admit to rapin' me and beatin' me up. How dare he put his hand on that bible and lie? How dare he! The nerve he has! That Tom even said he felt sorry for me. For me?? Why should he feel sorry for me? I have a nicer house and more money and respect then he will ever have! What a joke. This is all a waste of time. Now we are waitin' on the jury to come back and tell us the verdict, even though we all know who the guilty one in this case is.

Court Hearing
So, I was just put on the stand and Atticus cross-examined me. Gosh oh mighty do I hate that man! He was tryin' to make fun of me. He kept on callin' me Miss Mayella or ma'am. How rude! That man is so damn disrespectful. I just got raped and beat up by that Tom Robinson and he is actually goin' to defend him! What a weirdo. He has a little girl, what would he do if she got raped and hurt? Would he defend the criminal? What a pig. He disgusts me.
When Atticus was cross-examining me he also tried to accuse my Pa of wrong doin' to me. He tried to blame him for doing this horrible crime to me. How dare him! My paw's never touched a hair o' my head in my life! I can't believe he would even think about accusin' my Pa. He didn't do nothin' wrong and he never would. I have no respect for that Atticus and soon none of the whites in this town will. We will treat him an' his family like we treat the blacks.
Now it is Tom Robinson's turn on the stand. I tell you, I don't even know why the hell they are botherin' even questionin' that man. We all know that he is guilty. What's the point of wastin' all this time questionin'. I don't get it, it's pointless. Oh well, gotta go. The judge just called him to the stand.

Atticus
I found out that Judge Taylor appointed Atticus as Tom Robinson's lawyer. I know for a fact that I am gonna win this case for two reasons. First of all, I am gonna win 'cause I am white. Everybody knows that a white persons word is better than a blacks'. Secondly, I am innocent and that man is guilty of rape and battery. An' he better get the punishment that he damn well deserves.
The court date is set for today in the afternoon. Tom spent last night in the county jail. Last night, a couple of white men went over to the jail to see if they could get their hands on that damn Tom Robinson. To their dismay, Atticus was sitting outside. They were thinkin' about tryin' to get in anyway, but that darn Scout showed up with her little posse. She started talkin' real nice to that Mr. Cunningham. He then changed his mind about doin' anything that night an' him and the other men left. Gosh darn it, that damn Scout. That man Tom had it comin' to em'. She shoulda let him get it. Why the hell whould a white person defend a black person anyway?? I don't get it. Whatever, the court hearing is today and that man is going to get what he deserves.

That Damn Tom
You are not gonna believe what happened to me yesterday. That damn Tom Robinson raped me!!! It all happened yesterday. I was minding my own business, on my porch and I see that man headin' towards my house. Earlier that day, my papa asked me to chop up an old chiffarobe for kindlin', while he is in the woods. I didn't feel strong enough to do it, so when I saw that black man come towards my house I signaled him over. I told him to chop it for me and I offered him a nickel. When I went in the house to get the nickel, I turned around an 'fore I knew it, that damn man was on me.
He put his hands 'round my neck and started to choke me. He was cussin' and sayin' bad things. I really fought'n' hollered, but that damn man was so strong. He had me 'round the neck and wouldn' let me go. I swear I thought I was gonna die. And if that wasn't enough, he started to hit me agin n' agin. Then he began to take advantage of me. I kicked and tried to get loose but he was just too strong. I hollered and hollered as loud as I could. I sort of blacked out after that. I just remember Papa comin' in a he called for Mr. Tate.
You should see me now. I got a black eye an' all sorts of bruises. I feel so violated and I want justice. That man needs to go to jail or die. I am takin' him to court and I am gonna testify against him. That damn man better get what he deserves.

My House
My mama died a while back, so it is up to me to keep the house runnin' smoothly. Since my Pa goes off for days-long drinking binges, I act as mother to my siblings. We don't have that much money because my pa spends his employment money on alcohol. I am saving up my nickels so one day soon I can let my little siblings go buy some ice cream.
My house is located in Maycomb, Alabama. The area where my house is located is near the colored folks. I hate being surrounded by them. They pass my house all the time on their way to and from their jobs. The only good thing 'bout this is that sometimes I ask em' to do some work for me. I see this one man everyday, I think his name is Tom Robinson. I ask him to do a lot of jobs for me. Sometimes I have him choppin' kindlin', totin' water, or breakin' a chiffarobe. I don't think my dad would be too happy about me askin' the colored folks to do jobs for me 'cause he don't want me near them. But he won't find out so I won't worry. He don't help me anyway an' I gotta do all this work by myself. I don't see no problem with askin' for a little help every once an' a while.

First Day of School
I feel so frustrated right now! Today my brother Burris came home from school cryin'. As soon as he came in the house he wanted to wash up an' clean himself. Today was the first day of school for my siblings and the only day of school for them this year. You see, in my family us kids only go to school on the first day every year. We wouldn't even bother going at all but some truant lady threatens us with the sheriff. Finally, she gave up tryin' to have us come all the time. That lady just gets our names on the roll and we come on the first day every year. The teachers just mark us absent the rest of the year. I remember when I went to school. The kids would always think I was weird because I only went to school for the first day. So, today they had to go to school and my brother Burris had a teacher named Miss Caroline Fisher.
Miss Caroline Fisher is new to teachin' in Maycomb. She was so darn rude to my little brother today. She embarrassed the poor boy infront of his whole class. She screamed with fear when she saw a cootie crawl out of his hair. It's just a cootie! My brother doesn't mind a little cootie. In fact, he searched his hair and found it and pinched it between his fingers. There, see Miss Caroline, it is no problem it is just a little cootie. You don't have to embarrass him infront of the whole class! He got rid of it, she should have continued with the class but no, instead she decided to embarrass him more and she told him that he should leave school and go home for the rest of the afternoon to clean himself up. That darn teacher even went ahead and gave Burris a home remedy to try to get rid of his coodies. Now that is one rude lady! She went way too far.
Some little kid named Chuck even threatened my poor brother and said,"Watch your step, Burris, I'd soon's kill you as look at you. Now go home." After that, Miss Caroline told him to go home and if he didn't she said she would call the principle. Before my brother left he made sure to tell that darn teacher off, and hell, I was proud of him! Hahaha that teacher even started to cry! I am gonna go check on Burris, last time I saw him he was still pretty upset.

My Dad
I love my dad, he is a great man, but he has a slight problem---he is a very heavy drinker. He did it again. Last night he came home and he could barely stand up straight. He was talking very loud and slurring his words. I told him to be quiet because I didn't want him to wake up my siblings.
That didn't work too well. I told him to be quiet and sit down, but gosh oh mighty that man is so darn stubborn. He didn't listen and instead he headed towards his room and on the way he knocked into the coffee table and broke my flower vase. He better buy me a new one. I always put my geraniums in there. But anyway, after that he stumbled into his room and passed out. I can't stand this behavior anymore. I already act as the mother to my siblings, do I need to act like his mother too? I hope not. I need to talk to him, but he is hardly ever sober. One time I tried telling him that he needs to clean up his act, but that didn't end so well.
